MessageI think you're right, Tom. The CANSLIM hunting list that I =
uploaded last week included only stocks at or above their 200dMA, but I =
was less restrictive on 50dMA, allowing as much as 15% below. That seems =
to be a good "crouching" spot for still healthy stocks. If I remember =
right, there were about 200 stocks. That's considerably better than it =
has been lately, where the list had dropped as low as 50 or 60 stocks.

as another observation, Katherine, this weekend I used my usual screen =
but chose the 200 dma rather than new highs, got 48 or so stocks from =
Friday's close. Last night I ran the same screen but used the 50 dma, =
and got 105. Tells me a lot of stocks are poised not that far off their =
highs, so I will be looking deeper for the real gems.

Hi inderjit,
Good point. I felt that it was too early to make any conclusions based =
on New 52 wk Highs/Lows. During the "slide" the new lows list was =
registering extreme readings, a good contrarian sign of bottoming. As =
part of the read on the market health from this point forward, I will be =
looking for the new 52 week highs in leading industries to begin =
building up again, though a process like that will take some time.=20
In the meantime, I always keep an eye on new 60 day highs/lows as an =
intermediate term indicator. The good news is that the new 60DH's have =
been pathetically low lately, but yesterday, for the first time, I saw =
37 new 60DH's and only 88 new 60 day lows (60DL). (This is based on a =
"universe" of stocks that I watch of about 3000 stocks with minimum =
price and ADV). That's a significant change from the last 3 weeks or so, =
where 60DH's ran under 10 and 60DL's ran extremely high. I prefer an =
indicator like this to, for example, the percent A/D's rated A as an =
indicator of health, because it doesn't lag as badly, and relies =
strictly on current price action rather than a weighted summary measure =
of price/volume.

Hi Chuck,
So far today, I see a FTD on the NASDAQ. Too early to tell for =
sure on S&P500, etc, as I don't have volume numbers. Also, other =
encouraging signs today were=20
--advancers/decliners and up/down volume, with upside swamping =
downside by a huge margin (see attached)
--broad advances in many sectors of the market
That's not an "all clear"...as we still need high quality stocks =
setting up and breaking out in numbers. Stay tuned.....

As I sit here watching the DJ up over 300 points, and the rest =
of the market climbing as well, it's awfully hard to sit on the =
sidelines. I'm anxious to get back in - partially because I didn't know =
about CANSLIM until a few months ago and held far too long before =
selling. It sure looks like today could be a follow-through day. I =
hope we'll talk each other through the signs to get back in.
