and I have just as much confidence in any UN Resolution, or deadline, as I
do in someone telling me what stocks will double in the next 30-60 days.

I expect fear of a new war against Iraq to be an overhang on the market
until it is no longer an issue. If Iraq permits WMD (Weapons of Mass
Destruction) back into the country, that will only delay final resolution.
We will once again have months, if not years, of "do they / don't they" have
WMD (is a chemical plant making fertilizer, or bombs, etc). Nor do I expect
Saddam to simply step aside and retire. Every time we go past another
deadline for a UN resolution, fear will escalate. Then we will need a new UN
resolution, and a new deadline, or maybe postpone the deadline for the last
resolution.

This will remain a burden on the markets until the situation changes from
"lots of talk, no action" into "action, no more talk". Only then will the
markets quantify whether this will spread into a regional fight throughout
the Mideast, how other Mideast "allies" will respond, and whether the supply
of crude oil will be affected (aside from shutting off Iraq's exports).

I don't know why I didn't think of this question before, but - what stocks
are going to
go up in the next few months? Ok, scratch that one. I had one obvious
market
thought: besides being in the seasonally lousy period of the year, the Iraq
thing is a
huge unknown, that would seem to be something that will put a lid on the
market for
a while, until a probable outcome finally comes into focus. Sounds like the
UN will
come up with another resolution this week, which will probably have a
deadline
written into it. The market may bide its time until we get past whatever
date that is.
