I believe the S&P 600 is an index for small capsHi Lin,

Though in HTMMIS WON mentions a preference for smaller cap stocks, I =
think that for the most part, he is little concerned with this arbitrary =
measure of the "size" of the company. It's far more important to focus =
on the characteristics of the company and its stock--minimum price =
($12-$15 is his recommended minimum so as to attract institutional =
interest), something "N"ew that fuels growth and gives them an edge, =
proven growth characteristics, excellent fundamentals, etc. While =
CANSLIM stocks *tend* to be younger, smaller companies, they are not =
necessarily limited to this narrow definition as there are certainly =
times were larger companies will reinvent themselves and/or benefit from =
a new growth phase in a particular industry. All in all, it is the =
growth that fuels a CANSLIM stock, not size per se.

I believe the S&P 600 is an index for small caps. The top 70 =
companies shown on the IBD page average 1b to 2b. Do you know if there =
is an index for micro cap? Later in the B section of IBD there is the =
Nasdaq Small Caps section, but I don't think these are the same small =
caps as the S&P600. Most of these appear to be penny stocks. I am =
assuming that the IBS New America index is a mix. I've seen some pretty =
big companies on the New America page (BLL- although I guess 3b is not =
considered large). I don't have WON's HTMMIS with me, but it seems he =
recommended staying below a certain mkt cap and I guess I'm trying to =
figure out what that is.

  Thanks,

  Lin

  Hi Lin,

The definition of big/mid/small/micro cap will vary slightly depending =
on the source. Here is one definition:

Big Cap - Market cap $10 billion and greater=20
  Mid Cap - $2 billion to $10 billion=20
  Small Cap - $300 million to $2 billion=20
  Micro Cap - $50 million to $300 million=20
  Nano Cap - Under $50 million=20

You can read more about it at =

What is generally considered to be the mkt cap range on small caps =
and also on mid caps?

    Thanks
