Warren, I suspect if you check all defense related stocks, you will find
most are down for the day. Many had a good day yesterday, as a number of
major defense contracts were announced. And the Administration has clearly
signaled intentions to spend more in the future on defense, both of the
Homeland as well as defense spending in general.  However, the news
yesterday that Iraq will accept inspectors for WMD (under veiled conditions
already being hinted at), would take the shine off defense stocks, which
were benefiting from an expectation of going to war with Iraq in the short
term. This now postpones the start of that war indefinitely.

LLL would have suffered even more from the normal market syndrome that
knocks down the price of an acquiring company, at least until the market
(and commentators and analysts) decides it's actually a good deal for the
acquiring company.

Any thoughts on why these two stocks (maybe more, I haven't checked)
gapped down today? LLL announced an acquisition, but I don't see that
affecting ATK. I suspect it has to do with Bush and Iraq but I would
think this would enhance defense stocks.
