If indeed the markets trade sideways for the next few months/years then CAN
SLIM trading will not be appropriate. What then? Swing trading? No trading?
Cash/Bonds?

It depends on the definition of a sideways market. The Dow, SP500, and Naz
are weighted with the old laggers overwhelming any action of the underweight
stocks. If those underweight stocks begin to form bases and breakout the
indices may not show it. This is probably the reason the IBD replaced the
Dow with the SP600. And even the big indices can move up, have a FTD, and an
occasional confirmation while not really going anywhere. It isn't a big bull
market where anything you buy will move up. But if you follow the CANSLIM
fundamental and technical rules you can still make some 20%+ trades in that
type of market. The market has had at least 3 of these tradeable periods
since March 2000.
