so far I think everyone is correct. The premise with a LLUR is that "a stock in motion continues in motion", in other words that it will continue, theoretically forever, its upward trend. Thus your buy point really should reflect what you are doing. If you are essentially trying to day trade it, or for very short term, and take a 10-20% profit, then you need to buy it as close as possible to its lower trend line, and only when it is moving up from that trend line. If, on the other hand, you are buying it for a year or more, you can just close your eyes and buy it at market, and not think about it. If you had bought it, for example, almost a year ago after it reported turning profitable, you might have paid $7 after it had already doubled for that week. Yet today you would have a 170% profit. To do this you have to be willing to initially be losing money in case it dips back down after you buy it. The longer your investment objective, and the greater your profit goal, the less important that perfect entry becomes. One of the key elements for a LLUR pattern, and which has periodically made me hesitate to consider BLUD a valid pattern, is a lack of volatility, especially when volatility takes it measurably under its trend line. BLUD has been very volatile lately. I also have reservations about BLUD's latest earnings, which showed a sequential quarterly decline on both sales and earnings, also breaking this pattern on fundamentals. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Norman" <theboyd@tisd.net> To: <canslim@lists.xmission.com> Sent: Saturday, October 19, 2002 5:02 PM Subject: Re: [CANSLIM] Blud I think for an LLUR it isn't always the 50dma trend that the stock is tracking. Sometimes they trace a dma above the 50 and sometimes lower. And when they are tracking the 50dma, they don't always penetrate it, some just come close. Plus, before I buy a dip on an LLUR I check out the news and due date (in addition to any DD). If the dip is a week or 2 before the earnings due date I stay away; someone know more than I do. If there is news at the time of the dip, that also scares me. Low volume on the dip is a big plus; means the big boys and girls are hanging on. And like Mike said, having the RS and U/D ration on your side is also good. Looking at BLUD, it doesn't always penetrate the 50dma on a dip. Of course a penetration does potentially represent the optimum buy point, but you may have to wait quite a while to get in if you wait for a 50dma penetration. Looks like the 50dma line would represent a good buy point for this one if you were so inclined. But it has already moved a long ways this year... My $0.02. My guess is that the time to buy is when the stock crosses its 50 dma moving in an upwards direction. That means first waiting for a correction that takes it below the 50 dma and then watching for when it moves back up. And also make sure that the RS line and up/down volume are in the green area on Katherine's charts. Judging from the volume since the beginning of October, I'd say this stock is already very much "in play". The write-up was so glowing it almost guarantees to put it in play Monday morning. The chart is always a LLUR with infrequent corrections that can't really qualify as CwH. Assuming that you think the M has turned and will run at least until the invasion or Brazil defaults, etc. How does one buy a stock like this?
