Hi Andy,
I agree with you completely. All of the guidelines, whether fundamental or
technical, are a means for finding the candidates "most likely" to do well. In
the end, it's all a game of odds and stacking them in your favor is the critical
part of the process. Because it's a game of odds, we need a good eject button
when we flip tails instead of heads.
To Curt's original point, each investor has to find a meaningful set of rules to
follow within a set of style guidelines (in this case, CANSLIM), trade by them,
and then adjust as necessary as they learn from their post analysis.
Katherine

The flip side to this is that this "perfect" stock may fail the breakout.
There is no guarantee that stocks meeting all criteria with good bases will take
off and go.

Another way of viewing it would simply be by asking a question. That is, if
you were looking at a stock and it had a "perfect" cup with handle (ok, it's
theoretical!); high RS Rank; an RS line making new highs; met all other
earnings, sales and profit margin guidelines, and broke out on 150% of ADV,
would you pass it up because it had an ROE of 16.5%? If so, why? Does the "low"
ROE mean that it is not a good company or a good stock?
