Hi c, welcome to the group, and congrats (and a Merry Christmas) on =
finding CANSLIM and this group.

Right now, as I see it, "M" is clearly saying to sit on your cash. This =
is true with $5K or $500K. This is an extremely hard market to make =
money in, especially on the long side. But it is a good market in which =
you can paper trade.

Generally it is best to have 5 or 6 or so stocks in a portfolio, in =
order to have some diversification, and participate in several different =
industry sectors. That's hard to do with limited funds, and requires =
additional patience since Murphy's Law says that the one you passed up =
in favor of the one you bought will be the one that rockets while your =
purchase just sits there. Tempting to jump back out and chase the one =
that already got away.

In a large portfolio, you might have more stocks. The real question is =
how much time you have to spend keeping up with your investments, and =
the market in general.

With 5K, it would be better to have 2 or 3 stocks, than to cast the =
entire amount on a single stock. Important to use a broker than won't =
kill you with commissions and fees / charges.

Good luck,

Hello Everyone,

I am reading Bill O'Neals book for the second time and have just =
become an IBD subscriber. I'm very happy to have found the CANSLIM =
list! I'm very new to investing (have not even made my first trade yet) =
but I am eager to get started. I only have about 5k to trade with. My =
question is should I be trading at all at this point? O'Neal advises to =
wait out a bear market (this is a bear market isn't it?). If I do =
trade, how many stocks should I concentrate on and how much of my equity =
should I invest in it? I plan to use the free stock screener at Multex =
to build a watch list meeting the CANSLIM criteria, then to research the =
fundamentals on those and study their charts. Can anyone recommend a =
good book on reading charts? Thanks in advance for you help!
