O'Neil doesn't like limit orders. He prefers mental stop-loss orders =
over hard stop-loss orders as long as the investor can watch prices =
during the day (and has the discipline to execute them). HTMMIS does =
not give an opinion on buy-stop orders, but I don't think O'Neil objects =
to them, as they simply become market orders once price reaches the =
pivot point.

Ho-ho-ho (!) to one and all!

I've just read Weinstein's book - very enjoyable, easy reading, yet =
informative.
Helped solidify several technical items poorly explained in O'Neil's =
books.

I agree with Ann - not quite CANSLIM. First, he says the heck with =
fundamentals.
But it's easy to ignore that and still learn from his technical =
insights. Second,=20
his favorite chart patterns aren't the same as O'Neil's - generally =
Weinstein's
technical analysis recommends jumping in earlier. For instance, his =
Stage 2
(the beginning of which he recommends buying) often seemed to =
encompass
the right-hand bottom of a cup, the handle and subsequent breakout. =
Also,=20
Weinstein uses STOPs for buying or selling pretty much all the time, =
while
O'Neil doesn't like them in general. There are a lot of ideas in =
common as well.
All in all, fun stuff, and worth the $14 or whatever it was.

Time for a Christmas Eve Bailey's on a cool clear night......

    Hi, Welcome to the group,

Although I have been part of the group for almost two years, I still =
feel like a newcomer. There's so much to learn! Katherine M., a frequent =
and helpful contributor to the group, recommended the following book to =
me:

Stan Weinstein's Secrets of Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets

It's not CANSLIM specifically, but helped me to understand the =
rationale behind CANSLIM better. I still use CANSLIM for my buy and sell =
rules, though.

I also recommend paper trading for awhile, though some say that you =
only REALLY learn by doing!

      Hello Everyone,

I am reading Bill O'Neals book for the second time and have =
just become an IBD subscriber. I'm very happy to have found the CANSLIM =
list! I'm very new to investing (have not even made my first trade yet) =
but I am eager to get started. I only have about 5k to trade with. My =
question is should I be trading at all at this point? O'Neal advises to =
wait out a bear market (this is a bear market isn't it?). If I do =
trade, how many stocks should I concentrate on and how much of my equity =
should I invest in it? I plan to use the free stock screener at Multex =
to build a watch list meeting the CANSLIM criteria, then to research the =
fundamentals on those and study their charts. Can anyone recommend a =
good book on reading charts? Thanks in advance for you help!
