Without getting into the controversy over the cost of eIBD, there seems t=
o be a fundamental belief displayed here that I think is
mistaken. That is that the cost to the consumer should bear some relation=
ship to the cost of production and distribution. In fact
there is no such relationship under our capitalist system. Consumers will=
be willing to pay whatever price matches the percieved
utility of the service offered. In general, speed, convenience and unique=
ness command a premium. The marketplace will be the judge.

Ann, I am SHOCKED!!! Never realized that electrons over the net cost mo=
re to produce than ink on printed paper, not to mention all
the humans involved in the paper version. Silly me, I figured since the p=
aper was already in electronic form, an electronic version
would be considerably cheaper than a paper version.

And shame on IBD for blaming the carrier for stopping the home delivery=
service. I wonder if the delivery by electronic means will
be discontinued as well if there aren't enough online subscribers for a p=
articular area??

Tactically, this doesn't seem to be a good marketing ploy to retain exi=
sting subscribers.

I received notification today from ibd that my paper will no longer be =
delivered, that it will now come in the mail instead. When
I called ibd to ask about the change, I was told that my carrier was no l=
onger going to deliver ibd, and that I could have two weeks
free trying eIBD, since I lost my delivery. The guy said that they were d=
oing that for all their customers who lost delivery and
were going to receive ibd by mail. When I asked whether ibd was doing thi=
s on purpose to increase eIBD customers, the guy laughed
and said that my carrier was no longer delivering ibd.

But when I called my delivery service, they said that they received a l=
etter from ibd recently stating that it was
cost-prohibitive for ibd to pay to have so few papers delivered to one ar=
ea, and that they were going to mail the paper instead.

So this seems to be part of another big business/marketing move on ibd'=
s part.

IBD costs 219/year. eIBD costs 295/year. I was told that I could have e=
IBD for the same price as ibd, if I so choose, until my
subscription runs out. I think I might like the e-version, if it were at =
the same price, but I certainly don't like being railroaded
into the decision by ibd.

  Ann
