Jans,
Thanks for your response. I admit I didn't look very closely at the fundamentals myself because I rely on IBD to do that for me. Shame on me. :) If NBTY continues in an uptrend, my thinking is that it will pull IFF with it. My plan would be to get in at the buy point and ride up for the short term as long as I don't get any negative signals and as long as NBTY stays strong. Alternatively, if I decide on NBTY it appears that I will have to wait for a pullback to find a buy point, right?

While the chart is not as nice looking as NBTY (in my opinion), it
doesn't look like a hazardous waste dump.

However, the fundamentals don't look that great (eg, earnings, debt).
Also, I generally like management to own a greater percent of the stock than
do funds.

But this is why I would go more towards NBTY (besides the fundamentals
and superior chart appearance of NBTY). NBTY is a manf. and distributer of
nutrients. In my opinion, this is an up-and-coming baby boom field.
Baby-Boomers (besides wanting to live longer) are going to want to be healthy
as they live longer. NBTY fills that demand. IFF (cosmetics) provides only
a bandaid for that which (I believe) baby-boomers will be avid: Eternal
Youth (or at least as eternal as possible).

I'd wait for the market to get better (WON's stats say that over 75% of
stocks fall during a bear; now we may not be in a bear, but that doesn't mean
we're in a bull. The market could just fluctuate in a tight range for weeks
or months just below the 200 DMA resistance.) Moreover, as I said, I'd focus
more on NBTY than IFF.
