Jeff,

First of all, thanks for running this system.

I'm retired.  In my work-experience, I had to learn again and again that 
whenever something goes wrong, look first for an act of commission that was 
done to improve things, but had unfortunate and unpredictable side effects.  
Nine times out of ten that was what caused the problem.

This doesn't preclude progress.  It just means that one should try changes 
out on a small scale. 

If you're convinced that the new system would work better, then could you 
take a small group of volunteers, and put them on that system for long enough 
to shake the kinks out?  This would necessitate software to transfer incoming 
e-mails to that system for the volunteer group, and vice  versa for their 
responses.  But it might be worth it.  We have a unique and valuable system.  
Why take avoidable risks with it?
