Gene, sounds like that store is turning it into a cult experience. My =
addiction started as a kid, smelling the donuts being cooked that =
evening for the next morning as I rode home from delivering papers. =
Every now and then I would have a spare nickel for a donut.

In later years (70s), they developed the stores where they would retail =
the donuts hot off the rack, along with fresh coffee. By the late 80s =
however, they were selling off a lot of their stores, or closing them. =
Changing dietary habits I guess.

I think there has also been a change in management in recent years, =
which along with a change in diet seems to be reviving this old chain.

Personally I want to enjoy my hot glazed fresh off the rack in quiet, =
even solitude, fresh cup of coffee, maybe a good book to read.

Tom, I saw it with my own eyes.... a sugar oasis!

I love to people watch and had a great time watching hordes of folks =
stand in line and circle in cars a garish white building with several =
orange neon lights signaling the serving of hot doughnuts 'NOW". Had to =
share in your experience so we went inside to get a 'hot one'. The end =
of the line formed outside but within 5 minutes I was handed a hot =
doughnut in a paper wrapper. As we approached the counter I kept hearing =
'magic moment' yelled out followed by cheering, whistling and clapping =
of hands. Soon it was my 'turn'... the counterman asked if this was my =
first visit... when I said yes, he yelled magic moment and the 10 or so =
employees started their cheering, etc. The place reminded me of a bad =
bar... packed with folks and very loud music (70's) and folks having to =
shout to be heard... the only difference was the lighting... KKD's was =
almost too bright and the white furnishings and walls seem to exaggerate =
their over-bright white look... the crowd there at 11.00 pm told me =
that the folks love it so I'm no judge of decor...

Eating a hot doughnut was different but it will never replace an Oreo =
with a cold glass of milk!

My question is what made this 66 year old company come back to life?

Couldn't help looking around while we were outside.... on one corner was =
a new Central Market, another had a big Blockbusters and another Condoms =
to Go.... couldn't find a Starbuck's...
