You're welcome Gene. The charge is a humongous $20 for the year for the
ten meetings to pay for the cost of the room and the handouts that are
put together. That works out to $2 per meeting, assuming you start in
September! The $20 cost is for the season from September to June,
regardless of when you join or how often you attend. It is essentially
a non-profit group. People come from all over California, mostly as far
away as Palm Springs or San Diego, so Santa Monica is very close by
comparison. Occasionally we have people pop in from Alabama or San
Francisco, and we have had some fly in from St. Paul and Florida before
now.
I started the group in 1991 with our foundation in CANSLIM, and migrated
to using Telescan Software from 1993 to 1998 when they incorporated my
ERG functions into their software. We have become HGS Investor based
since 1999, when Telescan essentially abandoned their user base in favor
of their Wallstreetcity site, and the rest you know. CANSLIM investors
will feel at home here and can learn at their own pace as I am sure you
realize since we do not stray too much from basic big O', though we like
to feel we have put more meat on the bones with HGSI. I would suggest
they try a free trial of HGSI just to get familiar with the software and
its terms, but it really isn't necessary as they will get a lot out of

Thanks Gene- I am familiar with all those names (sites) but have not
really looked at them thoroughly. The HGSI seminars are fairly
expensive from what I can tell - maybe there are some user groups that I
did notice yet that are not. I find it helpful to be face to face with
people when trying to learn about investing a user group would be good.

Since you are already a member of AAII, I suggest looking at the great
data and search capability in their Stock Investor Pro module. Word of
caution, AAII's buy/sell rules are not CANSLIM.
Given what I've learned by throwing money away on software, newsletters
... and not focusing, I would not spend money on paid services before I
got a good grasp on all the free stuff offered by the following:

Hello. I have been on this email list for a couple of months but have
not joined in the discussion. I did email a question a couple of days
ago and no response so I am thinking that maybe I need to formally
announce myself. I am not currently a CANLIM investor (nor do I do any
other method of investing on my own). I don't have the confidence at
this point and am not sure what to method I want to pursue. I have read
WON's book (although not in while) and have subscribed to his paper in
the past so I have some familiarity with his philosophy. I am a member
of AAII and know that they fairly recently compared and reviewed a
number of investing mythologies and had good results for CANSLIM. I am
trying to determine what services and or software might be worthwhile
subscribing to. I have looked at cwhcharts.com and it does look
interesting and Katherine seems very knowledgeable as well as generous
with her knowledge and time. For anyone who does subscribe
cwhcharts.com ( or any others) how long you have subscribed and what
kind of results you have had. As well is anyone familiar with the
software program FastTrack? Can CANSLIM be applied to mutual funds as
well? Thanks-

any others) how long you have subscribed and what kind of results you =
