While I'd be the first to defend VectorVest, I have to agree completely with
Katherine here. (Her 4 Rules are right on the mark!) It seems to me that the
author of that article would have been better served by pointing out that "he"
was never able to use CANSLIM to good effect, rather than proclaiming the
failure to be in the system.

As stated by K, there are any number of ways to make money from the Market.
The key is to match system to temperament. VV is a tool by which to search for
and create systems for playing the Market, among other things it does. CANSLIM
is, in the final analysis, just another system created by an investor. In
this case, however, that investor was a relentless student of the Market who used
all of the research available over meaningful time periods to find a
consistent way to approach the Market with maximum effect. He did this by finding the
key characteristics which drive prices during any measurable era. While VV is
a wonderful tool, IMHO, it is incapable of giving you meaningful enough data
over long enough periods of time to say with any certainty that any system
devised on it will work in any era. CANSLIM can make this claim. That said, VV is
a wonderfully fun tool to play with and can certainly lead to very profitable
systems. I love it!

Finally, it's not CANSLIM Vs VV. It's, Are you more likely to follow in the
footsteps of a Master to learn how he has been successful, or are you intrepid
enough to forge your own path and take the risks associated with it? In either
event you may not win, but blaming others for your own inability to use tools
properly is a sure way to lose. Just my opinion.

Thanks for sharing the post with us, Gene. It certainly provoked a reaction,
which I think is cleansing in its way.
