Yes, thanks for reminding me. Definitely a glass half full vs half empty
point of view. I just remember the glass being very full.

So you still ended up making 50% profit (if you lost 75% of your profit --
which was 200%). Am I reading your email message correctly?

Sure, he'd buy a stock breaking out and sell when the profit was 20% sell
and buy another stock breaking out. This worked great in 1999/2000, in 1999
basically treaded water and then when things started moving take profits and
buy next stock. As you can guess this worked great until April, up 200% but
with no stops I ended up losing 75% of my profits and which point I told him
to sell over his objections. Before this I was married to the buy the next
big stock mantra now I beleive you have to take profits a bit sooner.

Hi Peter, are you at liberty to discuss the details of your former
broker's technique for taking 20% gains?

  Thanks,
  Gene

I'm constantly struggling with the issue of holding on hoping I have the
next CSCO/MSFT/AMZN vs taking a lot of gains in the 20%-50% area. I had a
broker that made me a lot of money taking 20% gains in 2000 vs holding on.
My post analysis showed that only one or two stocks would have done better
but holding on got me into new opportunities instead of waiting for a loss
or a slightly better gain. I'd like to hear some other experiences. I get
the impression IBD will sell these stocks at the top and buy them back if
they breakout again.
    Peter
