Someone wise, or at least rich, might have been Michael Marcus, said;
combining systems destroys them, you're usually left with the worst of both 
of them.

I adopt techniques from another systems, but I don't judge the other system 
from the results.  I've found if I want to go beyond exploring for 
improvements for my own system and evaluate or sometimes even 'get' another 
system, I have to make a vigilant effort to temporarily isolate it from 
everything else I've learned (both right or wrong), which can be difficult, 
imho.
