It all sounds about right to me but I understand that we are not
producing as much natural gas (which, by the way, is a fossil fuel) as
we are using so our reserves are declining. Maybe a shortage coming up
in the relatively near future.

>From what I have read, natural gas is the cleanest source as it mostly
produces CO2 and H2O. It is the fossil fuel plants that seem to create
the smog.
Ofcourse, nuclear (fission) is much cleaner but it is the environmental
costs of dumping that has everyone worried.
Finally, coming soon (maybe in the next two decades) to a plant near
you -- fusion energy and amorphous solar cells.
A fusion research plant is being setup with the Government's help
somewhere.
Amorphous solar cells (based on glass substrate) are solar cells that
are less efficient than silicon based substrate solar cells but are much
much cheaper and almost any user can afford it. It would replace most of
the roof and would last over 25 years and would atleast produce 2kw or
more. It would work hand in hand with current electric utilities. If you
have any excess energy, you sell it to the utility and if you need any
excess energy, they sell it to you. Ofcourse, you would be selling to
them at a cheaper rate than they would sell it to you.
Do not ask me the source as I am an avid reader that remembers vague
facts but not the source ;)

It already is because gas doesn't carry the burden of the medical
bills ... maybe some day we'll figure it out. Remember the day that smog
was just an L.A. problem?

Gene,
Green energy is not yet on its own grid. So if the thinking is that
they would not be affected by the kind of blackout that we had, I
would
venture to guess that the companies would be affected.
Green energy still costs more than regular energy from what I read
about 6 months back. The question is "Has green energy become
cheaper?"

Looking for a list of companies that support the wind power energy
industry.
Thanks,
Gene
