Just this year I started buying individual stocks. I use Suretrade, at $7.95 per trade via the internet (www.suretrade.com). I want to keep track of the stocks using MS Excel, but I don't see an intuitive way of keeping track of the dividends paid out, the initial commision, DRIPs, and stock splits. I want to be able to calculate my return on investment correctly (for each stock, and as an aggregate for the whole portfolio), and to keep track of my stock basis, when it comes time to sell. I plan to hold about 5 to 10 stocks, and want to keep it in one worksheet, unless that becomes unwieldy. The recent Beardstown ladies fiasco shows that calculating the annual return can be tricky, especially in the way fees and commissions are handled. Any suggestions, templates, or sample spreadsheets? Thanks. P.S. Of course, I started buying just before the summer market downturn, after years of watching the market go up and up without me!!!! A Devesh Tiwary, atiwary@pol.net - -
