Here are a couple of suggestions.

1) Check Vanguard's Money Market fund. It was paying around 5%.
I realize that you said no fund, but in my years with Vanguard the
share price has never varied from $1.00/share. But the following is more
responsive.

2) Join the Digital Employees Federal Credit Union. (Not effected by the
COMPAQ acquisition.) I move money between my checking account and a Money
Market account via their web site (www.dcu.org) and it (money market) pays
4.25% computed daily. I think they pay 4.5% for amounts over $10,000. And,
unless I'm mistaken, it is FDIC insured. It's not a fund.

BTW - I presume you are still at Argonne?

Howard
