Got some other ideas for helping you get back on track. 1. If you smoke, stop. You'll save money, be healthier, and your insurance and cleaning costs drop. 2. If you drink liquor, stop. Fruit juice is cheaper, better for you, no one ever got a DWI ticket from tomato or grape juice. 3. Wherever possible, walk or bike instead of driving. Its better for you, the environment, and is cheaper than driving. 4. Check out a local COSCO or BJ (wholesale supermarket)... they not only sell cheap food but cheap clothes, etc. 5. Skip buying newspapers. Either get your news from the radio or the internet, or go to the library. Is better for the environment, and free. 6. Stop buying books. Use the library. 7. Stop buying records/CDs/tapes. Use the library. 8. Stop hanging out at Starbucks. Take a hotcup from home and go to the library. The coffee is a lot cheaper, and you wont be tempted to buy expensive and fatty muffins. 9. Go to the bakery at the end of the day... they'll often sell their goods at a discount. 10. Buy floor models of anything that you really need to buy. We've bought a floor model washer, dryer, radio and turntable.... saved a lot of money, and its as good as the original boxed item. 11. Buy rebuilt machinery. Black and Decker, for example, sells rebuilt drills for a lot less than you can buy them at the store, and they have a full warrantee. 12. Use the teller to get cash instead of paying $1.50 for an ATM withdrawal. 13. Put on an extra sweater or long underwear, and lower the thermostat in your house.... big savings there, and its better for the environment. Years ago, I and a friend managed to live on $15/day, and we did just fine. If you make it a game (trying to "beat the system"), living frugally is not only doable, you'll start wonder why others don't do it too (like the person on the plane with the $150 ticket sitting next to the person who spend $500). Your quality of your life is not a function of how you spend your money... it's a function of how you spend your time. Good luck, and have fun - -
