Recently my insurance company decided not to renew my homeowners insurance. The reason they gave me for non-renewal was frequency of claims. The policy started in 1994. I had one claim for borken water pipe ($8700.00) that was paid in 1/96. In fall of 1997 my wife lost her engagement ring. I did not have extra coverage for mysterious lost of items. However, my agent said I should file a claim anyway, maybe they would cover the ring, which I did. The claim for the ring was rejected and no money was paid. However the insurance company (ERIE), now won't renew me because of 2 claims within a 7 year period. The fact that one of the claims, no money was paid, seems to not matter. Also I mentioned, the fact the agent suggested I file the ring claim, seems to not matter. Is this legal, and is there anything I can do about this. Sklein - -
