New GSLS Monoplane Ultralight Glider
I would hope that everybody connected with ultralight aviation knows about Great Salt Lake Sails in Utah. They made the updated SuperFloater (the Cadillac of the Airchairs), the UP Predator, UP TRX, Fledgling and Pterodactyl sails, and OEM sails for most new ultralight aircraft.
Lucky me, I got to tour the GSLS facility in Utah lately, and spotted a new work in progress. So, here is a sneak preview.
The new project is a monoplane hang glider in the tradition of the HighTailer, Quikarus, VJ-23, et al. It is still in the prototype stage, but it does look interesting. The sail is 4.0-ounce Dacron, and the leading edges are a fabric/Mylar laminate called X-Ply. The wing is a strong ladder-type construction, with a sleek fabric trailing edge, similar to most hang gliders. Performance should approach that of a double-surfaced airfoil, at a considerable savings in cost.
I took a scad of pictures, showing some of the quality fittings made for this project. This aircraft will be sold as a fully fabricated kit, with all parts cut and drilled. There will be no fabrication involved; the kit requires only assembly. The price is expected to be quite reasonable. Take a look, and comments are welcome here.
