Presently there are eight Quorums of the Seventy. Members of the First and Second Quorums are designated General Authorities. Members of the Third through Eight Quorums are designated Area Authorities.

Priesthood in LDS Church

Boys (12 years old or older) and adult men can only hold the priesthood in the LDS church. As defined in LDS Doctrine and Covenants section 107 there are two priesthoods, the Aaronic Priesthood and the Melchizedek Priesthood, named after Old Testament persons. The Aaronic Priesthood is known as the lesser priesthood and the Melchizedek Priesthood is known as the higher priesthood.

High Priest

Those holding the office of a high priest can be ordained and set apart to various responsibilities, such as bishoprics, stake presidencies, stake high councils, stake patriarch, mission and temple presidencies. For example, a high priest can officiate as a bishop if there is no designated descendant of Aaron available.

Seventy - Members of the First and Second Quorums are General Authorities.
Apostle - General Authority

Note: Those ordained to offices higher than a deacon can officiate in any of the duties of lower offices when called upon. Also any person holding one of the above offices can be ordained and set apart to various responsibilities.
