My camping and hiking pictures

The kids and I enjoy camping and hiking. We have made it a tradition to go on a road trip to do some hiking and site seeing during the Presidents' Day holiday week-end.

This year we went to Zion's National Park. There was a lot of snow but it was much warmer than the below zero temps in Salt Lake. Here are a couple of photos taken on the trail above the park camp grounds.

Katie and Kam sitting on a rock overlooking the campgrounds. This view is up the canyon. You may be able to see "Agnels' Landing" and the "Patriarchs" in the background.

Hanging out

This is a photo of the kids on the trail that starts from the campgrounds and makes a loop overlooking the mouth of the canyon. I just liked all the colors and thought the tree would make a nice frame for a picture of the kids.

Just lots of pretty color

This is a shot taken just as you start up "Hidden Canyon&squot; after climing the path up the main canyon wall.

Hidden Canyon

This is a wall with very interesting coloring part way up the canyon. The kids spent quite a bit of time exploring the holes and making little sand paintings with the different colord sand they found in little pockets.

On the Wall

This is a cute little arch that is about half way up "Hidden Canyon".

The arch in Hiddend Canyon

This photo is of the kids walking along a wall that has an anchored chain. In the summer, this ledge would be about one to two feet wide and the drop is several hundred feet. This was a little scary for me. The chain was below my knees because of the snowpack. It was a little crusty because it had been quite a while since the last snow. The trailhead was very icy because it is lower in altitude and gets a little sun.

This next photo is of Kameron leaving a marker of piled stones just below the upper emerald pools. It was raining last year when we came on Easter break and the falls were spectacular. This year there was a little water falling from snow melt but it was too cool for there to be much of a melt.
