Hall's Cabin 2004

This is a shot of the big one that didn't get away. I did not intend to keep her but my net was too small to hold her and by the time I got her tired enough to get her to stay in the net, she was too tired to revive. I had her for dinner, a lunch, and a breakfast. She must have been eating well. The meat was the color and flavor of salmon. Quite a treat to catch and eat.

This is a photo from down river of the East side of the cabin. You can see where we pulled the canoes out of the river. Were we float there is not any white water so it is a nice little float where we saw eagles, cranes, egrets, osprey, cows, and unfortunately oil rigs. They have sprung up like weeds and have ruined the serenity and view of the Wind River Range.

This is a shot of Chauncey and Emily Hall. Chauncey is the one that got me started on building the canoe and kayak. He has several boats he has built. I will have to work for quite a few years to catch up. They are very active and each year they have been nice enough to invite us up to their cabin. We usually fly fish, hike, float the New Fork by their cabin, paddle one of the lakes by Pinedale, and read stories by the fireplace.

Kate and her mother in the kayak. Kate has gotten very good with the kayak and I think it is her favorite boat.

Kam doesn't waste time. He was digging in the sand before everyone got out of the boats.

Chauncey and Emily landing the canoe at "Willow Lake".

Kate at the old homestead at "Willow Lake". Actually the owner of the property came by and asked us if we were lost and we explained that we had just stopped for lunch. They keep this area for family parties at the lake.

This is a shot of Kate and Kam looking down of "Fremont Lake" from the pass between "Upper Soda Lake". We hiked up a jeep trail to the lake then bush-whacked to the pass.

This is a photo of "Burnt Lake". This was the clearest day we had.

This is a shot of Kam climbing the roots of a tree that fell on the spit of land in "Burnt Lake<". The road up was a little rough for our cars so we hiked up the jeep trail and did not bring the canoes. We would love to have been able to paddle this one. We saw some bald eagles steal a fish from and osprey. This was the first time I had seen this in the wild. What a show!

This is a view of the front of the cabin. The sky is so big and the air is so clear that it is refreshing to the soul.

This is a cow moose that I had for a fishing partner. I am an early riser and we would say hi as I walked down to the fishing hole. They sure are big when you get close to them. I was glad that she was not an angry bull. Last winter a couple of snowshoers got attacked in one of the SLC area canyons.
