Action Alert
Dear Sarah,

Will you help us pass these bills? SADS supports these three separate issues --for our families' sakes. We invite you to take action on all three--but it's your choice. You now have one more opportunity to make a difference this December!

  • Call your representative next Wed. (Dec. 14th) to ask them to support the Genetic Nondiscrimination Act (GINA)
  • E-mail your representative to vote against any cuts in funding for the life-saving AED program
  • Automatically send your lawmaker a message asking them to invest in saving a life and increase research funding for the NIH

Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act

Heidi Williams never expected that her children's status as carriers of Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency would cost them their health insurance. In August 2003, it did: her two children, then ages 9 and 7, were denied health insurance because they were carriers of a condition they would never develop.

Next Wednesday, December 14th, join hundreds of others and call on your representative to cosponsor H.R.1227. With a five minute phone call to your congressman's office, you will protect your genetic information and that of your family.

The Rural and Community Access to Emergency Devices
One More Chance to Restore AED Funding!

The Rural and Community Access to Emergency Devices program is still in jeopardy. Congress recently defeated an 83% cut in funding to this program. But now, you have one last chance to make sure Congress restores drastic cuts to this program that provides your state with automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

Send your lawmakers an e-mail today by clicking here. Let them know they have the power to save lives by voting against any cuts in funding for the AED program.

Research Saves Lives
Increased NIH funding in Jeopardy!

The recently defeated Labor-HHS-Education conference report would also have provided the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with the lowest percentage increase in funding in 36 years. This outcome would have significantly limited ground-breaking research that leads to cures.

We have one more opportunity to restore AED funding. But, we have to act fast. Discussions are being held now on Capitol Hill and decisions will be made shortly, so please send a message now.

Take action now!

Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,

Alice Lara
