The tyranist's thoughts
I have never seen the first Bloody Murder movie and Rish tells me that I should be grateful. Still, I am always hesitant to review a sequel when I have never seen the movie before it. On the other hand, if Rish is correct about the first one, perhaps it was an advantage for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
So there's a camp and it's on a lake. There are counselors who are as randy as they are young (Hey, I went to school with a guy named Randy Young!--Rish). And there's a legend that a mysterious killer wanders the woods hacking the shit out of anyone unfortunate enough to wander by.
At times a direct rip-off of the Friday the 13th films, it often feels more like a pastiche and an incredibly good one at that. The jokes hit, the gore is good, and the plot (while not air-tight) is serviceable. In the end, the movie is a lot of fun and could just as easily have featured Jason as . . . uh . . . Trevor?
Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by this one and would highly recommend it if you are a Jason fan. Of course, it may be that devout Jason fans would find it offensive. You figure it out. Posted: December 27, 2004

Rish's Reviews
A couple of years ago, I worked at a video store. I had a roommate who, for a short while, enjoyed watching horror movies with me, so I'd bring three or four home every night and he'd pick the one he thought he could stand and we'd watch them together. One of these (it might have been the last one we checked out) was an awful Friday the 13th ripoff called Bloody Murder. It was so bad, so poorly-made, so unoriginal, that I had to kill my roommate for choosing it.
The police never found out.
Now, it's the end of 2004, and tyranist and I are together, for another short while. Bloody Murder 2 was on the shelf, and for some reason, I thought it might be entertaining enough to warrant a rent.
And I was right. But not in the way I expected to be. Who woulda thought that a direct-to-video sequel of a godless direct-to-video ripoff could be so good?
It wasn't really scary, but it was fun in a retro sort of way, and competently done. It also had nudity and sex, just like the old Slashers did (isn't it nice that the skin-free Nineties are over?). Even the acting wasn't attrocious. The ending, though, was the weakest part, and it was very weak, making as little sense as the otherwise-capable plot had striven to manage.
Our girl (Katy Woodruff) was quite attractive, somehow managing to look better as the film went on, and while no new ground was trod (in fact, this very film has been made a dozen times over twenty years ago), I was quite glad I saw it.
And you wanna know the worst part? If they make a Bloody Murder 3, I'll grab it off the shelf and give it a rent.
