Rish Outfield's reviews
Very slow-moving, but when the shit hits the you-know-what, it is very disturbing. I wasn't alienated by the bizarre Canadian locale or dialect, but I'm one of the lucky ones. Evil children are always scary (heck, aren't just regular children?), and this one has a lo of them. I'm not a very big David Cronenberg fan, but I had heard spooky things about this film. Though I enjoyed it, I still don't consider myself a fan.

The tyranist's thoughts
I believe that this is the first David Cronenberg movie that we have reviewed for the site. An interesting choice. When this one started up and I saw Oliver Reed's name, I almost screamed. I haven't had too much luck with liking his movies. Still we watched it and discovered a well-thought, intelligent horror film. Cronenberg departs completely from normal horror to explore a kind of combined psychological/science fiction horror that isn't probed too often. The little kids are creepy and make you really sympathize with the main characters. Of course, you hardly know what they are until late in the movie. There is a lot of tension that seems to come from absolutely no where in retrospect, but the movie is wonderfully paced and carries itself very well. The fact that Rish and I had this one more or less figured out at the beginning didn't take away from our enjoyment of it, which is highly unusual. Watch this one with an open mind.
