The tyranist's thoughts
Just judging by the cover of this one, I went into this expecting a typical B-grade T & A horror film. That pretty much sums it up. Another
movie based on another Bram Stoker story that I have not only never read, but have never heard of. This is probably my own fault.
So young Bram Stoker, who wants to be a writer, is riding through the countryside with his father when their carriage is suddenly
waylaid by bandits. Bandits who are women. Bandits who capture young Bram and take him back to their palace of many other scantily clad
women and lesbian pleasure. These are the rat women. Yes, rat women. They worship rats. Rat women. But Bram falls in love with one, or
rather has determined naked sex with her on the floor of his jail cell. Can he choose between his love for her and the cult at large? Will
he ever see his father again? Can they outsmart the smarmy French chief of police? Do you care?
There is really only one reason to see this movie. It isn't the plot, which is nonexistent. It isn't the acting, which was slightly above
average B-grade. It isn't the stars, although Adrienne Barbeau plays the Rat Queen so if you're a completist . . . It isn't the witty
dialogue, because there isn't any. It isn't the stunningly well-executed script, since I don't think they had one. It isn't the terrifying
scares, unless of course you're afraid of naked women with swords. It's . . . well, you know what it is. You should only see this movie if
you just love Roger Corman brand low-grade horror/high content nuidity pictures.
