Rish's Reviews
This was so out-and-out an Alien ripoff. No if's and's or but's about it,
folks. Even the cover. But it was a fairly good Alien ripoff. It combined
elements from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, that, for the most part,
worked. Odd though, the absurd 'person we forgot about and left for dead
pops up and saves the day' ending was used in Star Trek: First Contact, and
it didn't bother me there. You know, Ridley Scott shouldn't feel bad that,
from Split Second to Alien Contamination to Event Horizon,
there have been Alien clones--since the original is still better than all of them.
Still, Klaus Kinski has a certain charm, doesn't he? Regardless, this wasn't a salvageable
film, and that ending (shudder) saw to that.
The tyranist's thoughts
When people try to rip off Alien or its ancestors, they usually make terrible movies. In fact,
I can't think of one rip off Alien that I even kind of like. This particular one, however, is
beyond bad. There are numerous plot holes and devices that simply fail. There aren't any sympathetic characters for us to
really fear for. The ending is beyond inane. Klaus Kinski is in it.
Basically, I could make a better movie than this using the money and talent they had, and I consider myself to be a pretty
poor filmmaker. I will say that they had a few original twists on the theme, but nothing that really wowed me so much that I
could forgive the rest of their incompetence.
