The tyranist's thoughts
Given the chance to choose between an '80s slasher flick and a brand new 'teen thriller,' I'll take the slasher every day. It's too bad that I'm not always right.
I spotted this one down the horror aisle because of its cool cover and the promise of it being a typical '80s slasher flick. It has all the classic elements. Beautiful young women gathering at a remote location for what promises to be a decadent weekend. Add Killer. Stir.
While it had that fresh-out-of-the-'70s feel and a good basic idea, they simply failed to deliver what was promised. Sure it was a slasher, but it lacked the two key elements that set the '80s slasher apart: gore and nudity. They could have made this film today for all of the quiet, politically correct edits that they made. This lessened the film by some degrees and exposed the flaws that are in all slashers, but that get covered up in distractions by other productions.
I guess I didn't like it much. There was a lot of potential in the story and I really wanted it to be good, but in the end, it was dissatisfying. I do have to give them points for keeping the killer's identity relatively obscured. If you are looking for an '80s slasher, you can do much better. If you are simply interested in seeing what kind of story is really underneath all that gore and nudity, maybe this one is for you.
