The tyranist's thoughts
If you are looking for a traditional mummy movie here, you won't find it. The mummy in question is a 3000 year old druid witch who was mummified (without the embalming) and dropped into the Irish bog. But don't overlook it because of that. I was quite surprised by this movie and very pleased with the random seed that got me to rent it. Christopher Walken plays an old Irish uncle (with the worst accent I have ever heard) who happens to be in possession of the mummy. From there the mayhem proceeds. I don't want to give too much of the plot away though, because I think this is one that you should see without knowing everything.
I loved the score. It was haunting and perfect for the movie. The little girl who played Alice (Rachel O'Rourke) was captivating to me even though she was clearly not a primary figure in the movie. The movie takes place mostly in Ireland and is pleasanter for it. The cinematography was very stylised and interesting to follow. Watch this one with the lights of though because there are a few dark but important scenes.
An original and very good movie that I think is overlooked. I can see some arguments against the pace, but really this movie suited me just right.
