Rish Outfield's reviews
An entirely uninspired title, folks. As you know, it's been twenty years
since Michael Myers terrorized Haddonfield, Illinois in general and Laurie
Strode specifically. Jamie Lee Curtis returns in a remarkably three-
dimensional performance and completely carries this film. And she has to, as
Donald Pleasence's Sam Loomis isn't around to fight for her and spout on about
"the embodiment of evil." He is missed, as most of the other characters have
very little to offer. The teen cast is pretty unlikable and just Michael-
fodder, and those who get away maybe shouldn't have. Kevin Williamson's
influence was strongly felt in certain parts (such as the Scream-like
dialogue and references, and the conventions being broken), but I wonder how
great it might have been if he had been more involved. The little in-jokes
(like those regarding Janet Leigh) worked, for the most part, but the film
SHOULD'VE been so much better. The ending never truly satisfied me, perhaps
because I kept comparing it to Aliens (you don't have to look hard to find
the parallels), and I wanted to hear Laurie say, "I think we both can.".
Best Scare: Michael's hand shoots out from under a bed, grabbing a would-be victim's ankle.
I'd Recommend It To: Fans of the first film, mostly.
The tyranist's thoughts
The long awaited return to the series by Jamie Lee Curtis was both good and bad. I hated certain moments in the film
and the fact that they totally discarded 4, 5, and 6 without so much as a nod. But I loved seeing Laurie versus Michael
again. I also didn't find the other characters as despicable as some that I have heard review this film. I guess in the
end I can only compare it to the original and say that it wasn't as good. But it was better than 2, 3, 5, and definitely
6.
