Rish Outfield's reviews
So, there's a fine line between pleasure and pain, huh? Not THAT fine, folks. Yuck. This movie was uber-sick. Clive Barker has a way with frightening, disturbing images, and this is the premiere example. The film examines the aforementioned ‘fine line' by showing mutilations, eviscerations, dismemberment by flying hooks, and homicide with a deadly hammer. It features ‘Star Trek: DS9's Andrew Robinson and introduces Pinhead, the ultimate acupuncture masochist (he is still a totally cool-looking creation, but he's been milked for all he‘s worth, and the other Cenobites aren't much to look at). I didn't like it much, but it is technically well- done, well-acted, and really disquieting.
Best Scare: The first appearance of that THING that used to be a man in the basement. You know what I mean.
I'd Recommend It To: Hmmm, people who like to be disturbed and grossed-out, I guess.

The tyranist's thoughts
I have to say that Clive Barker can write creepy stuff. First and foremost, however, is the fact that this movie has more than its share of gore. Of course, what would you expect from a walking, talking, skinless character. The tension in the film isn't very well maintained at times and the final coming of the Cenobites seems sort of anti-climactic, but the movie is still well worth the watch.
