The tyranist's thoughts
I'm not sure what possessed me to rent this one. In retrospect the only reason I can think of is that I kinda hoped Amy Jo Johnson got naked. Life is full of disappointments.
A bunch of thirty-somethings and one twenty-something gather after a friend's mysterious death. After the funeral they naturally retire to secluded island mansion to party. In come the bugs.
Now bug movies aren't new and possesssion movies aren't new and even bug/possession movies aren't new. In fact, very little about this movie seemed terribly original. What likely carried it is that the cast is actually pretty competent. They manage to overcome what seems like a really bad script and for a lot of the movie I had a good time watching it. As surprising as this was the ending was predictably bad and really brought things back around to the level of what I would expect from this kind of movie.
There aren't a lot of reasons to see this one, but it is better than some. If you dig on either Amy Jo Johnson or Robert Duncan MacNeill then you might want to give this one a look. Otherwise it is pretty mediocre.
