Rish Outfield's reviews
Oh wow, was this bad. Using the word "CRAP" is being so generous, I'll have
to grab my thesaurus. Boy, I feel dirty just writing about this. The pace
of this 'Thriller' constantly fluctuated between slow and slower, causing me
to wonder if it had been edited in camera (if at all). Very bad. Very
stupid. Very unfun. And that's the thing that's most wrong with this
throwback to the awful B-movies of old--it's just no fun. There weren't any
characters who resembled real human beings and the actors ranged from having
no motivation at all to "Wait, what was my motivation again?" I didn't get a
lot of it, from the 'Scientist' who was probably younger than me, to the odd
guy who kept popping up and saying stupid things, to the gay drug addicts who
lived (along with all four other people in this building) in an apartment
without doors. Oh, and it was supposed to be FUNNY! Believe me, the only
laughs associated with this movie were coming from the video store employee
that saw we were checking it out. There was a VERY pretty girl in here (I'm
talking beautiful), and she was not only wasted, not only un-likable, but
every time she was in a scene, I wanted to shout "Get off the screen! On
with the credits!" Ick. I hated The Killer Eye. I'd rate it up there
with The Last Slumber Party,
Jack-O, and Carnosaur.
What was with the stomach-rubbing, anyway?
The tyranist's thoughts
When Rish and I heard that Full Moon was branching out to create a new line of lurid horror films under the imprint Pulp
Fantasy, we were excited. We have now seen the first entry in that line and I can honestly say that it probably should never
have been released. The imprint has changed names from Pulp Fantasy to Cult Video, but that doesn't help much. I can't believe
that Full Moon would sully their reputation with this kind of woefully inadequate film.
On to the film itself. I had so many problems with it that I will just hit the major ones. First, pace. This movie was obviously a
45 minute script extended to 90 minutes. It was abominably slow. Second, intelligence. Apparently they think we are idiots.
Anything sexual in nature was implied to the audience by a little belly rubbing. There is a scene where I think the guy is
supposed to be masturbating, but he just sits there rubbing his hand on his stomach. The eye is oddly attracted to stomachs
as well. There are far more intelligent ways to imply sex. Third, plot. There were so many little contrived instances and
forgotten devices that I had to forget most of what I know about the way the world works to even half believe what was happening
on screen. Fourth, the Eye. They could have made it a little more threatening. Instead they relied on something that was stupid
and inadequate, plus when you do finally see the 8th dimension it is a poorly done crayon drawing. Terrible. There is more, but
you probably don't need to know. Suffice it to say that I am going to need some serious persuading before I ever rent a film
under a Full Moon imprint again. I still like Full Moon, but their offshoots are probably all junk.
