Rish Outfield's reviews
If you're looking for straight-horror, look elsewhere. This was almost a
comedy at times, and there were far more laughs than scares. Still, the
great Steve Miner directed this one, so it's definitely worth a viewing.
Betty White gets a lot of good lines, but Bridget Fonda's dialogue and scenes
stole the show. She's real neat. I also really like Bill Pullman, and found
him charming in the movie's only straight role. Occasionally, the alligator
looked phony, but only when it was computer-generated.
The tyranist's thoughts
You should see this movie as immediately as possible. I love alligator movies and this one tops them all. It is extremely well-written
and well cast. The crocodile effects are marvelous. The plot is fun, the dialogue is great. The gore isn't over-the-top, but it
isn't toned down much either. Bridget Fonda is winning my heart with this performance and her great performance in A Simple
Plan. Oliver Platt is my hero, and his character is great too. Bill Pullman has to be the most charismatic man since
Harrison Ford (or perhaps along side). Even if you really don't like gator movies you simply must see this. It is tremendously
funny and legitimately tense. You will enjoy yourself too much to remember that you hate dumb monster movies.
