Rish Outfield's reviews
Great title, huh? A strange tidbit about me: I like Christopher McDonald.
Everyone sees him and instantly hates him, but not me--I think he's kind of
cool. Maybe it's because the first time I saw him was in one of the all time
best Star Trek:TNG episodes, "Yesterday's Enterprise." In this film, he is
possessed by a ghost/demon/child and turns more and more evil throughout the
film, but I couldn't bring myself to despise him. Instead, I felt pity. I
wanted him to beat it. I know I'm alone in that. Other than that, the only
thing I really enjoyed was the title. There were some mean-spirited murders,
and a lot of fright involving the ghost-thing, but when it actually shows its
Muppet-like face, all terror fled.

Interesting, but over the long haul, not that good. The premise behind this one is fascinating, but as the movie develops
things get confusing when they shouldn't. Perhaps it is the descent into madness thing that is so hard to do right in a movie
that defeats this one. Still, the actors were fine, the script showed evidence of intelligence, the set was awesome (I love
movies that are supposed to take place in Europe and actually do). The flashbacks\dreams were often poorly done if only
because they were trying to hide from us the truth about one of the characters. They didn't do that good of a job anyway, so
why all of the confusion and tangled flashbacks. Additionally, I hated the heroine for a few moments when she did something
that I thought was completely irrational. Either I missed the point of her temporary insanity, or they didn't convey it
well enough. Perhaps that is why in the end, I walked away thingking a little poorly of the movie.
