Rish Outfield's reviews
Jill Schoelen again, folks. Tyranist LOVED this movie, and I didn't. I can
see some redeemable points to it, though. It had a nice little story, a fun
movie-within-the-movie, a few familiar faces in the cast, and nice production
values. When it worked, it was pretty clever. But the rest of the time,
there was nothing special here. I just didn't care for it. It's hard to put
a finger on it. Jill Schoelen continues to be pretty but vapid. Tyranist
would say my dislike for Ms. Schoelen is the reason I disliked this movie, and
he may be right. Go on to his review, he might be more convincing.
The tyranist's thoughts
We rented this simply because it had Jill Schoelen in it. It turned out surprisingly good. It has a good plot that is
fairly original and some excellent twists that keep it interesting. This is probably Jill Schoelen's best work and it
is a movie that is definitely worth seeing in spite of the title and box. The idea is most of what makes this movie what
it is, but I think the special effects are also remarkably good for the quality of film it is. Imagine a film that is part
homage to the classic horror films (I am talking about the horror films that most of us consider to be way to campy to be
scary now) and part creeped out slasher. Possessor is disturbing.
My only complaint about the movie would probably lie with the weakness of the subplots. There is very little creativity
outside of the main storyline. As much as I liked Jill Schoelen's character, there wasn't much else going on. I tried to
forget about that, though, and just enjoy the great theatrical experiences the characters have instead. It seemed to work
as much as in any other horror film.
