The tyranist's thoughts
I had a few high hopes for this one as there have been a number of surprisingly good,
yet low-budget slashers that came out of the early '80s. This one has a decent amount
of potential, but fails miserably to deliver.
So six hot young things go hiking into the wilderness for no other reason than to get them
there. Of course, there's also a killer about, but no one seems to know about it. Intersperse
and ungodly amount of natural flora and fauna shots and back until putrid.
The potential here was really just the potential of all slashers made back then to be fresh
and innovative. Try a few things that we haven't seen and all. Instead, they seem to have
taken the easiest way out possible. Vast sections of the film are filled with nature scenes
that belong in a documentary rather than a horror flick. I would estimate that at least one
fourth of the movie doesn't feature a human on screen.
I was really enamored of Debbie Thureson's character but in the end they reduced her to
a snivelling shell and it sort of ruined it for me.
What little buzz there is about this movie talks about the shock ending. Well, it wasn't
shocking and in fact, I had predicted before even starting the movie. On top of that,
it was done in an unbelievably lame fashion when they finally did get around to it.
You can safely skip this one. There were a couple of really nice moments, but in the
end it is not worth the effort.
