The tyranist's thoughts
I was only about five minutes into this one when I realized that I had seen it as a child
and loved it. It's too bad I wasn't still that child. While the first movie in the series
didn't take itself seriously at all, this one wanted to be a comedy. A very bad comedy.
So the military is cleaning up the mess from the first movie and they somehow manage
to slop a few of the leftovers around. The dead start to rise. Our heroes find the town
mysteriously abandoned except for the zombies.
The idea wasn't bad and the movie really has some fun things going for it. This movie
also made me realize something, sometimes bad acting is encouraged. It could only be
the fault of the writer/director that some of the characters played the way they did.
There was more than one moment that I just cringed, but instead of marking it up
to bad acting, I went with a bad dialogue skull instead. Believe me when I say there
was bad dialogue, but this one is also due to a bad script.
The zombies aren't bad. The art of creating the '80s zombie on screen was more
or less mastered by this point and available to anyone who cared to use it. The rest
of the effects aren't terrible either, although you may want to fast forward through
the scene in which the zombies arise. It is far too deliberate an attempt to cash in
on Thriller. Weird that you could even try
to cash in on something four years old.
Anyway, the movie is entertaining in its way and would probably even be fun if seen
by a crowd. If you loved the first one, then you probably won't want to watch this
one immediately after.
