The tyranist's thoughts
In late summer of 2002, Rish and I attended the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in Pasadena. As I recall it was a lot of fun, except for all the people. I'm a little bit of an agoraphobe. Anyway, among the many teasers and bits about upcoming horror flicks that we saw, there was a trailer for a Fangoria distributed movie called Slashers. It looked monumentally bad, but we both thought that it might be fun to see with a bunch of horror addicts.
Flash forward a year. I find myself sitting alone in my living room watching Slashers not because it seemed like it was time, but because I couldn't find a single other movie at the video emporium that I was itching to see.
A Japanese gameshow (assumably in the future) pits six contestants against an assortment of mask-wearing psychopaths in a sort of winner-take-all contest for survival. There are three girls and three boys, I'll let you guess who wins.
I really wanted the movie to be good (have you ever wanted a movie to be bad?), but had a hard time getting into it since I hate the kind of television that it was mocking. Still there were some bright spots and I didn't find it hard to pay attention. The dialogue was the worst part, with the acting not too much better. But the script was thought out and well-executed even if it wasn't Citizen Kane. I found myself not hating it as much as I expected I would. Of course, I watched it on a night that held other worse films. It's probably worth seeing in that crowd of horror addicts I mentioned. Let me know how it goes if you try that sometime.
