The tyranist's thoughts
It seems like the Italians got the idea of the slasher long before it ever penetrated the
American psyche. Their peculiar brand of slasher is often more complex and sometimes
more confusing, but for all of that they've been doing it a lot longer than us. Of course,
just as the American slasher prompted the decadent slashers of the '80s, the Italian
slashers also prompted their less pretentious variations.
At an insane asylum for attractive and lustful women, there is a killer wandering
around knocking off the patients one at a time. Usually while they are naked. Mostly
right after they've had sex with someone.
The tagline implies that nothing is forbidden here, but I would contend that a reasonable
plot and character development are both forbidden. As most American T&A
slashers, they seem to focus more on making sure they get good shots of naked women
than they do on anything else. Oddly enough, it still feels a little more highbrow than
its American counterparts. Probably the soundtrack.
I didn't really care much for this one. The decadence was nothing new and/or shocking
(of course, I'm seeing it 22 years after its release) and it got kind of tedious. I'm not
sure I'd really recommend it, but I can't think of anything that makes me want to say,
"Stay away," either. You're probably capable of making that choice for yourselves.
