Rish Outfield's reviews
Terry O'Quinn is back! And he still rules! If there was any doubt after the
first film, this installment clearly has the Stepfather as the
protagonist...the hero. He escapes (brilliantly, by the way) from his mental
institution home (wait, didn't he die in the first one?), and starts a new
one . . . in your neighbourhood. He doesn't kill much at first, but when he
does, he does it well. When he goes on his final rampage, the believability
factor begins to disappear, and the ending is a lot less gratifying than the
first one. In the end, I was left less satisfied, but still wanted to rent
Stepfather III.
Best Scare: Meg Foster's inhuman hueless eyes. Man, I hate her.
I'd Recommend It To: Fans of the first film and other horror junkies.
The tyranist's thoughts
The sequel really isn't much better than the first one. Granted the first one had its really creepy moments, but the most creepy
thing in this one is Meg Foster's eyes. The story is identical with the exception that the woman has a son instead of a daughter.
In reality, I much preferred Jill Schoelen to this little prick. There is a similar lack of death and mayhem through most of this
film and I think that is what really puts me off about them. We know who the killer is, and we know that he is going to snap, and
it is suspenseful for about ten minutes. After that, they are only torturing their audience. It ceases to be frightening and
starts to become inane. I can't knock Terry O'Quinn though. He does a fantastic job with what he is given.
