Rish Outfield's reviews
It didn't suck. Really. It was obviously low-budget, but with good effects,
an appealing story, and a surprise or two. This was a nice little show (most
of Full Moon Video's releases are nice little shows, have you ever noticed?),
with a capable cast. It's inspiring to know that something good can be made
without a trillion-dollar budget, since how many of us have a trillion
dollars lying around? (donations can be sent to Rish Outfield, Box 173...)
The girl had a certain slight Jennifer Love Hewitt quality, and that's always
good. On the downside, it had a dumb, illogical sequel-setup ending, but
then, everything does.
I'd Recommend It To: If you see it on the shelves sometime, give it a rent.
The tyranist's thoughts
As much as I wince when we pick up an A-Pix feature, I tremble with delight when we pick up a Full Moon feature. Full Moon
is the only studio (independent though they are) that has been consistently doing horror for the last decade. Their projects
are generally lower-budget, but they have refined their system to produce high production values on the least cost. The movies
aren't stunning by any stretch, but they aren't the low grade crap we had to endure on early 80's video. It also seems to me
that they are getting better at what they do. We have reviewed a number of Full Moon videos and this one is the best by far.
It is also one of the newest.
The movie takes place in Romania (really. That is where their studio is) and deals with the end of days. The story isn't
tremendously suspenseful, but it is well told and it is fun to watch. There is at least one character who's dialogue is
ultimately quotable and the rest are at least mostly convincing. I would highly recommend this one, especially to anyone who
enjoyed other Full Moon productions.
