I may not have much to say on this one. I'll try, but I'm not promising much.
First of all, this had a very crappy title, but it was also cool. The tagline was "When I go berserk . . .you're better off
dead!" That was also cool. Unfortunately, the picture and sound were so bad that after thirty seconds, I wanted to turn it
off. Also, immediately it was glaringly obvious that the film was dubbed. . .from something else!! "Oh, the farmacia. Would
you stop at that drugstore, please?" I know I'm closed-minded and petty, as I wasn't about to give this flick a chance. But
I tried to be better than that, I told myself, "Okay, so it's foreign, but so was Rumble In the Bronx, and that was
great!" Once I got into the story and consciously filtered out the bad dubbing, I was able to watch the film with a little
more objectivity. I figured it was Spanish at first, then realized it was from Italy. You know, for a coupla inbred
backwoods country hicks, tyranist and I sure do see a lot of Italian-made pictures.
Though I gave it a chance, I sure didn't get much out of it. This was basically a murder mystery with a few lengthy
side-tracks and a foreign locale. It was not really a horror film; I guess you'd call this one a "Giallo."
There WAS a bath scene, usually a bonus, but this one was with a scrawny old man (shudder)! My mind wandered a lot. The
lead actor looked like Charles Bronson (does anybody remember him?). It was amazingly slow with lots of static driving
shots and extensive dancing and singing. I guess the highlight of the movie was when the radio news reporter said, "The
woman was killed by methods of sadistic cruelty leading authorities to believe the murder was committed for motives of
personal revenge." Why can't American newsmen be that colourful? Also in this flick's favour was the coolest hysterical
woman slap since Airplane!
In the end, the title had NOTHING to do with the film. The actual Italian title was The Cat With the Jade Eyes, so I
suppose it was an attempt to capitalise on the sensational horror film titles of the time. Also, the IMDB claims this film
was made in 1977. And who am I to argue?
I'd Recommend It To: You know, if you could get into the mystery and like the characters, you might enjoy this film. I gave
it a try, and I didn't, but you might. I know that ain't much of a recommendation, but it's the most someone who has
slopped hogs can manage.
