Rish Outfield's reviews
Very fun. This was one of the most entertaining nods to my favourite genre I
have yet seen. Cool parodies/homages to Alien,
Frankenstein, Nosferatu, Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde,
Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Dawn of the Dead,
and a hilarious sendup of The Haunting. This did away with the seriousness
that hampered the first film (especially the nasty S.&.M. subplot), and ended
up better than its predecessor. Nice special effects here, and a general
light attitude help. Again, I was a Zach Galligan fan as a kid and he's okay
in this. Look for a great cameo by Bruce Campbell, and the smallest possible
blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance by Drew Barrymore. Oh, by the way, horror
rules!
Best Scare: I don't remember--it was a long time ago.
I'd Recommend It To: Horror fans with a sense of humour. Even more than the first one, in fact.
The tyranist's thoughts
This movie is a hard one to talk about. It was much better than its predecessor, but not quite to the fantastic/classic
range. It wasn't very scary, but had a lot of horror elements and nods to other horror movies in it. Deborah Foreman
didn't return for this sequel (I know that didn't hurt Rish's feelings), but Monika Schnarre more than filled her place.
There were moments when this movie had nothing to do with horror and everything to do with medieval romance. By the same
stretch there were moments when, if you didn't understand horror or have a history with horror film things wouldn't make
sense (specifically, it would be beneficial to have at least a passing knowledge of the following films and legends:
The Haunting, Alien, Dawn of the Dead, Frankenstein, Dr.
Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde and Jack the Ripper).
Any way I try to break it down, this movie was really fun to watch. But I think that knowing horror helped a ton.
