The tyranist's thoughts
As far as I know there are only three movies featuring Yul Brynner as a cowboy: The
Magnificent Seven, Return of the Seven, and this one. Unfortunately, I saw this
before seeing The Magnificent Seven, but it was only a couple weeks apart. The
side effect was that he creeped me out all through The Magnificent Seven.
So there's this place, where they've build robots to service your every desire. It is divided into
three themes centering on ancient Rome, the medieval period, and the old West. Our heroes
choose the old west and have a great time shooting it out with the local law enforcement and
then flopping at the cathouse. Of course, when the robots decide they want something
different. . .
A nice piece of science-fiction, this is often overlooked as horror in spite of the fact that the
last half hour is pretty formulaic and something of a precursor to the unstoppable '80s slasher
villains. As I mentioned, Yul Brynner is truly creepy as the main robot antogonist and the
hero (played by Richard Benjamin) is very convincing as well. The ending leaves a little to be
desired, but I would recommend this to any sci-fi fan and most horror fans. It really deserves
to be seen.
