The UNREVIEWABLE
H.P. Lovecraft, in his long-winded downward spirals of dementia, wrote about a creature so indescribably monstrous that words
could not do it justice . . . it was Unnamable. Now, I'm sure there are some movies (Jugular Wine, for example) which are so
bad, they're indescribable. But this is a list of what I like to call the Unreviewable, movies that just won't get reviewed on the Horror
Film Compendium. Some (like The Stuff) are just so bad I can never watch it again, let alone review it. Others, however,
are deemed not-Horror (like Assault on Precinct 13, which is a pretty neat action film, but is only called a horror movie by
people who haven't seen it) , or not Horror enough to review (like They Live, which really seemed like Horror until I
watched it again). And there are a few which are probably enough of the genre to merit reviewing (Supernova, for
example), but didn't get Skull tallied or written up for reasons unknown.
If there's one thing we've learned over the course of assembling the reviews for the Horror Film Compendium, it is that
sometimes, even with our liberal standards, a movie billed as horror just isn't and some that are strenuously not billed as horror are.
For whatever reason, we choose to omit some of those movies. This doesn't mean we don't like some of them, we just couldn't justify
or didn't do skulls for them. We've tried to mention the rationale behind that decision but there
are movies that we aren't even sure about. These movies are all movies we've seen within the time period of the HFC, it just wouldn't
be fair to try to list all of the movies we've seen before the site started. If ever they are revisited again, then perhaps you will see them
reviewed here, but until then, they are UNREVIEWABLE.
